Dr. Mark GreenbErg
Dr. Greenberg is a Distinguished University Professor and Provost Emeritus at Drexel University. He was founding dean of the Pennoni Honors College, where, from 1995-2008, he administered honors programming and developed innovative, interdisciplinary academic initiatives serving the entire University. Some of his innovations include the Drexel Cultural Passport, Visiting Scholars, Great Works Symposia, establishing the first Fellowships Office and the Office of Undergraduate Research and STAR Program. He created the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement and the Study Abroad Program and supervised the Drexel-School District of Philadelphia Partnership, while also serving as interim dean of the School of Education. Dr. Greenberg also helped develop programming to project Drexel’s broad cultural purview: The Drexel InterView, now broadcast on over 350 PBS stations nationally, and the award-winning online magazine The Smart Set from Drexel University (www.thesmartset.com).
Dr. Greenberg has published three books and more than 30 articles or chapters in books and delivered more than 80 invited presentations and keynote addresses on 18th and 19th century British literature. has chaired the executive committee of the Modern Language Association's Division of Literature and Science, and is a founder and past president of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts. For years he was review editor of Brown University’s Modern Language Studies and serves on a number of editorial and executive boards, including those for Johns Hopkins University Press, The University of Michigan Press, Longman’s Publishers, McGraw-Hill, and the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics. He has evaluated grants and educational programs for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Science Foundation and consulted for the National Film Board of Canada and for the president and provost of The New School.
